Alteration to Bus Schedules February 2018

New bus timetables come into effect from Feb 3rd. There are some minor changes to times but the most significant difference appears to be that the three 460 buses running west along Tadworth Street between 7 and 10am on weekdays will no longer service the Tadworth Court, Tadorne Road or The Lye bus stops. This seems to be to facilitate the use of a stop at Walton Oaks which is that closest to the Pfizer complex. The same restriction occurs in the afternoon between 4 and 6pm. The 460 buses passing east along Tadworth Street at about 8am and between 4 and 5pm are treated similarly. Travellers impacted may have to go to Tadworth Station to catch these buses.

The revised schedule is available to view, print and download here.

Message from Reigate & Banstead Council
The opportunity to make changes to services 420/460 were discussed with Pfizer initially about 8 years ago. At that time the County Council were keen to have additional patronage on these services but the issue with Pfizer discontinuing the private coach transport for staff proved to be too difficult for them at that time.

Last year Pfizer approached Metrobus, the bus company who operate services 420/460, to ask if they would be interested in serving the site. The best possible solution for the County Council is that the passengers currently transported to the site by private transfers (100+ passenegrs) are integrated into the local bus services, making them more sustainable and in the longer term more commercially viable, benefitting residents along the whole route.

Metrobus have looked at loadings for the 3 pairs of stops affected by the reroute (Tadworth Court stop in Tadworth Street, Tadworth Street -Tadorne Road and Tadworth Street -The Lye) at those times they will no longer be served. The alternative stops are currently the bus stops in Station Approach or the bus stop on the Tadworth Court Roundabout at Bonsor Drive (for travel towards Reigate).

Although the survey shows these journeys being lightly used at the times when journeys will be diverted to serve Pfizer we are investigating the opportunity to install some additional bus stops which could make the alternative route easier to access. Sites currently being considered are Dorking Road, near the Grumpy Mole PH and also in Mill Road - at the time of writing these haven't been confirmed.

Journeys diverting via Walton Oaks but not serving Walton on the Hill will operate:
(towards Tadworth Station) - A217, Mill Road, Dorking Road to Pfizer then turn in Pfizer grounds back along Dorking Road to New Road, Tadworth Street, Station Approach to normal line of route. (towards Reigate) - Station Approach, Tadworth Street, New Road, Dorking Road to Pfizer and turn in Pfizer grounds then straight along Dorking Road to Tadworth Court Roundabout, then A217 to normal line of route towards L. Kingswood.

Journeys diverted via Walton Oaks and serving Walton on the Hill will operate:
(towards Tadworth Station) - A217, Mill Road, Dorking Road to Pfizer then turn in Pfizer grounds back along Dorking Road to Chequers Lane, Howard Close then normal line of route (towards Reigate) - Howard Close, Chequers Lane, Dorking Road to Pfizer the turn in Pfizer grounds then straight along Dorking Road to Tadworth Court Roundabout, then A217 to normal line of route towards L. Kingswood.

While I can appreciate that some passengers will ultimately be inconvenience by the changes the reroute has provided the opportunity to introduce 10 new journeys into the timetable - a number of which do serve the stops in Tadworth Street. I am hopeful that once the new route has settled in these changes will prove to be beneficial to many passengers and allow for a this service to be provided on a partially commercial basis in the longer term.
